Crewe & District MBC
Sailing Days and times
We now sail every Sunday and Wednesday from 12noon. The Monday sailings have ceased until next May. The Calendar has been amended to show the new dates
We are pleased to announce that Howard Craske has been co-opted onto the committee to fulfil the role of Treasurer. Howard will take over his new role from 1st January 2019 after the accounts for 2018 are finalised and audited. We offer Howard our thanks for taking on this role and wish him every success.
Christmas Party and Raffle:
We have booked the function room at the British Legion for the evening of Wednesday 12th December with a hot buffet arranged as per last year. We will be drawing our Christmas Raffle during the evening. Tickets on sale from the Secretary £1 for a strip of 5. Main prizes are: Free 2019 club membership; Dremel 4000 drill with tools in a cased box - winner to have first choice. Other prizes to be announced.
Our membership is open to all subject to proposal by two members and acceptance by members at our monthly meetings.
New members with or without their models are always welcome. We allow three visits before they apply for membership to allow time for the individual to assess the facilities and the suitability of our sailing waters for their model.
Junior members pay no fees but must be accompanied by a responsible adult who must be a member of the Crewe & District Model Boat Club
General Data Protection Rules (GDPR)
Members and users of the web site have the right to ask for any personal information held to be corrected or deleted. Please use the contact page to ask the Secretary to amend or remove any data the Club might hold.
Visiting modellers are especially welcome with or without their models and we will always allow them to sail their model, however live steam models will need to have a valid recognised boiler test certificate.
We have no plans to exhibit at any shows at present.
We have three bench table seats installed at the lakeside including one kindly provided by Alan Blackhurst.
Our permission to sail is at the stated times on Sunday and Wednesday and some Mondays, please do not attend on any other days as the lake is used by others. Members may continue sailing until dusk provided they are not sailing alone
The seats are for Members use on club days and members of the Public should be asked to vacate whilst we are using the facility on sailing days. There is now relatively level access to both jetties so both are suitable to use to launch models. However the grass bank is steep and may be slippery at times. In wet weather the jetties can become extremely slippery and users are advised to take great care to avoid the risk of slipping.
Boundary Park is Private Property and there is no Public right of access. There are two further lakes between our water and Shakerley Mere, all are open to the Public and allow access for people wishing to walk or exercise their dogs
We have amended sailing times between May and September so that our members can sail safely without endangering the Public attending U-Swim.
The weed problem has again been tackled and we have been able to sail throughout the year. The water level however remains low due to the dry weather we have experienced this year.
The U-Swim season has finished for 2018. They do have a Bonfire swim advertised on 4th November from 6pm but this should not impact on our Sunday sailing. They recommence swimming in May 2019.
Our monthly meetings are from 8pm on the second Wednesday at the British Legion Club in Middlewich.
